One Tech Engineering is searching for an Electrical Utility Storm Safety Consultant for a position located in Missoula, Montana. The Electrical Utility Storm Safety Consultant provides field-based safety leadership and oversight during electrical utility storm response and restoration activities.

 

The candidate must be a US citizen or hold a green card. The candidate should have electrical utility safety experience in Transmission, Distribution, Substation, or Storm Restoration.


Electrical Utility Storm Safety Consultant Responsibilities:  
  • Support transmission, distribution, and substation crews before, during, and after storm events to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with OSHA, NESC, and utility-specific requirements.
  • Support the development and review of storm response safety plans.
  • Assist with mutual aid safety onboarding and expectations.
  • and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), tailboards, and safety briefings.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 1910.269, NESC, and utility safety standards.
  • Provide on-site field safety oversight during storm restoration.
  • Conduct job brief observations and safety walkdowns.
  • Monitor: PPE compliance, Switching, grounding, and tagging practices, Traffic control and public safety, and Crew fatigue and work/rest cycles.
  • Serve as a safety liaison between utility leadership, contractors, and mutual aid crews.
  • Support incident response and near-miss reporting.
Requirements of the Electrical Utility Storm Safety Consultant:
  • Electrical utility safety experience (Transmission, Distribution, Substation, or Storm Restoration)
  • Strong working knowledge of: OSHA 1910.269, NESC, and Utility storm restoration practices.
  • Ability to work long hours in emergency and high-pressure environments.
  • Strong field presence; able to engage crews without being a “safety cop”.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred
  • Prior storm response or mutual aid experience.
  • Local knowledge of Montana terrain, weather, and utility operations.
  • Former lineman, substation technician, or utility field professional.
  • Experience supporting wildfire, wind, ice, or severe weather restoration.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 (ET&D preferred).
  • CHST, STSC, CUSP, or CSP.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED.
  • Flagging or traffic control certification.
